This two year MSc programme aims to impart theoretical knowledge and integrate it with research in computational natural sciences (physics, chemistry & biology). Most of the course work would be completed in the first year of the program, and during the second year, the students would work on a research project in their area of interest.
Eligibility criteria: Bachelor's degree in any branch of science with Mathematics as one of the subjects. Degree with BSc honors/major in either physics or chemistry is preferred, but not mandatory.
Post-BSc dual degree programme (BTech CSE + MS by Research in Computational Natural Sciences)
This is a four year integrated course offered to meritorious Science graduates (Physics/Chemistry Honors) with an aptitude for research. The programme aims at providing breadth in Computer Science along with domain specialization with an opportunity for thesis work in the final year. Eligibility Criteria: Bachelor.s degree in Physics/Chemistry with Mathematics at the graduate level and a strong motivation for carrying out research in Computational Natural Sciences.
Often broadly described as new physics/chemistry/biology, a number of emergent areas in sciences require expertise in basic physical sciences as well as IT. Some of these are:
- Structural bioinformatics of functional RNA molecules
- Ab initio quantum mechanical computations on inter and intra molecular interactions in biomolecules
- Molecular modeling, Docking and Molecular dynamics studies for understanding biomolecular structures and interactions
- Systems Biology
- Smart data structures, efficient query management, computational geometry algorithms, visualisation algorithms, pattern recognition for structural bioinformatics,
- Chemical dynamics
- Excitation energy transfer in nano-bio systems
- Noise enhanced response of model systems
- Thermodyanamics and Statistical Mechanics (especially of biological processes) and modeling
- Computer Aided Drug Design
The dual degree program will provide an excellent training in basics including a comprehensive learning in computer science, as well as an opportunity to carry out a one year research project culminating in a thesis. With the dual degrees, the program effectively enables the students to participate in the fast expending IT based industries like the nanotechnology, bio- and pharmaco-industrial R & D, etc
Eligibility criteria: Bachelor's degree in Physics/Chemistry with Mathematics at the graduate level and a strong motivation for carrying out research in Computational Sciences.
